Color Balance is the classic photo-editing adjustment for changing the color of an image's shadows, midtones, and highlights separately. Instead of recoloring the whole picture at once, it splits the tonal range into three bands and lets you push each one along three opponent-color axes — Cyan–Red, Magenta–Green, and Yellow–Blue. That makes it the natural tool for warming up a flat photo, cooling down a harsh one, neutralizing a color cast from indoor lighting, or grading shadows cool and highlights warm for a cinematic look. This tool runs the adjustment pixel-by-pixel on the HTML canvas: each color channel is shifted by the three range sliders weighted by how dark or bright that channel is, so a shadow tweak barely touches the highlights and vice-versa. Keep Preserve Luminosity turned on and the brightness of each pixel is restored after the shift — so the colors move while the exposure stays put, which prevents the muddy, washed-out look that color shifts can otherwise cause. Everything happens locally in your browser: your image is never uploaded, transparency is preserved, and there's no sign-up and no watermark.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between Shadows, Midtones, and Highlights?

They are the three tonal bands of your image. Shadows are the darkest pixels, highlights are the brightest, and midtones are everything in between. Color Balance weights each slider by how dark or bright that color channel is, so adjusting the Shadows band mostly recolors the darker tones, Highlights mostly affects the brighter tones, and Midtones affect the middle tones — letting you, for example, warm the highlights while keeping the shadows cool.

What do the Cyan–Red, Magenta–Green, and Yellow–Blue sliders do?

Each slider moves one color channel between two opposite colors. Cyan–Red controls red (drag toward Red to add red, toward Cyan to remove it), Magenta–Green controls green, and Yellow–Blue controls blue. These are the standard opponent-color pairs from photography: to cool a photo you add blue and cyan, to warm it you add red and yellow, and to fix a green cast from fluorescent light you pull toward Magenta.

What does Preserve Luminosity do?

When it's on, the tool restores each pixel's original brightness after shifting its color, so you change the color without changing the exposure. This keeps the image from getting lighter or darker as you push the sliders and avoids the washed-out look color changes can cause (pixels whose channels reach pure black or white can still move by a tiny rounding amount). Turn it off if you want the color shifts to also affect brightness — for example, deliberately lifting the shadows while tinting them.

Is my image uploaded, and does it keep transparency?

No upload — Color Balance runs entirely in your browser using the HTML canvas, so your image never leaves your device and it works offline once the page has loaded. Only the red, green, and blue channels are adjusted; the alpha channel is left untouched, so transparent areas of a PNG stay transparent. There's no sign-up and no watermark.
